Our Story

The history of Beth Israel Congregation begins in the 1920s, a time when young Jewish families were moving into the area around Fairview slopes, in the Oak Street area.

Beth Israel itself was born in 1932, a year of anxiety over the Depression. Thus it was a courageous act to contemplate forming a new congregation. That’s chutzpah!
